EARTH HOUR 2009

TODAY : SATURDAY 28 MARCH AT 8.30PM
YOU CAN VOTE 'EARTH' BY SWITCHING OFF YOUR LIGHTS FOR ONE HOUR - EARTH HOUR.
This is not so much about saving energy. It is more a massive, global and overwhelming signal to our nations' leaders to say that climate change is important. That it matters a great deal. That we care. Now do something about it!

“Am I the only one that knows nothing about Earth Hour, yet most definitely has not been living under a rock?" asks Allison.

I don't think so. But thanks for waiting till the last minute to let us know!!!!

Beware : Earth Week is 4/20

Close to Home

So I was reading the news this morning and found this story.
Hancock, NY is located on I-86 (Old Route 17) about 1 hour northwest of Middletown, NY or 2.5 hours north of NYC. I pass this town on my trips back to East Otto. Anyway, this is crazy that this exists! And HOW?

Old Age Begins at 27, Study Finds

THAT SUCKS... even for me now!!!!!
New research suggests that old age actually begins even before we hit the ripe old age of 30. The research, done at the University of Virginia, indicates that our mental abilities begin to decline from the age of 27, after reaching a peak at 22. The researchers studied 2,000 men and women aged 18 to 60 over a seven year period. The people involved, mostly in good health and well-educated, had to solve visual puzzles, recall words and story details and spot patterns in letters and symbols.
Maybe it is time to buy one of those hip Nintendo DS or Playstation handheld games that test your brain with 3x7, or 11-6, or 36/9 skillz.... yeah... right. What was I talking about again? :)

Happy Birthday Patty!

We invited our friends, John, Phyllis and Patty over for dinner Sunday night.
It is Patty's birthday today. So of course we had to find her a "Patty-cake". HA! Okay, not so funny.

And it seems as if Makita has a new friend... that or she was trying to push John out of her spot on the couch :)

Stock Market Classes in Elementary School

The current economic problems spotlight a need for financial literacy. Schools must teach children about money and investing without breaking their own budget. One creative way to do this is with the Young Money Stock Market Game. Not only does this game teach saving and investing, it also teaches decision making, critical thinking, and the importance of doing independent research. Students receive $1,000,000 in virtual money. Then, using a live trading simulation, they create their own portfolios. To build a portfolio students must research and evaluate stocks, learn how the economy works, and practice basic math. Teachers can have students work together in a team or individually. Find this at www.youngmoney.com ; This is the best idea and I wish they focused more on economics beyond what's a nickel and which one is a half-dollar.

I love hearing about stories like this in history that comes to light in today's world. Feels like part of a movie!

For nearly 150 years, a story has circulated about a hidden Civil War message engraved inside Abraham Lincoln's pocket watch. On Tuesday, museum curators confirmed it was true. A watchmaker used tiny tools to carefully pry open the antique watch at the National Museum of American History, and a descendant of the engraver read aloud the message from a metal plate underneath the watch face.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Now, I haven't been following the NFL in detail for the last few years, but I am not dead. I do know a few things that are still going on, like the players are still making too much money for playing a game they love, the owners still haven't dropped ticket prices to let a family enjoy a sunday game ( but that goes for almost every sport today ), nor do they seem to understand that some players are just complete waste of time, money and oxygen. Case in point :

Hot Girls in Scary Places - March 13th E! Channel

Hot Girls in Scary Places? Oh that’s just the way we like ‘em and E! knows it (hence, The Girl’s Next Door? i.e. Hot girls, scary, spunk-filled grotto. Hello?).

According to HollywoodReporter.com, E! has just ordered a reality paranormal project with three ladies at the head of the haunted investigations! Hot Girls in Scary Places is set to star three University of Southern California cheer squad pals who must spend the night in a “haunted abandoned hospital” to win $10,000 cash prize. Ironically, $10,000 wouldn’t even pay a year’s tuition at USC, so I’m thinking these ladies might have some ulterior motives. The train will wreck in a special/backdoor pilot tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 13.

"Why do we care?" you may be asking.... well, Jason will be the voiceover for the promotion of the show. Pay attention to the E! Channel and your local schedule. I have yet to find what time its on, but we do have confirmation its on Friday, March 13th. WATCH FOR IT!

Its beginning to look alot like.... Christmas???

Well, March is definitely coming in like a lion.
Here's the proof from the Rocks....
Looking across the street to Bunny's house.

The tree in the backyard.

Here's the accumulation left on the hot tub.
This is what has fallen since 11pm till 6am.
Don't mind the clock on the wall... its wrong. ;)

Another view of the backyard fence area.

Another 3-5 inches are to fall today.
And of course, I'm on my way to work after I put this up.
