New Living Room

Okay, the suspense is over. The new living room ( what used to be the new bedroom after the addition ) is back together.  And we added a nice fireplace. For an electric fireplace, it puts off some great heat, and of course, looks great in the room too.

Notice the new room in the far corner. Hidden out of the way!!!!

This would be Nate's desk area. Hidden out of view!

New Fashionista

While fiddling through the dresser drawers trying to find the fall/winter long sleeve heavier clothes  :( , Makita decided to play dress-up. I swear she picked out the color herself. I would have chosen a red or even black for the event, but she thought Ash Gray would have her stand out in the crowd. Either way, she made a statement.

Holiday Commercials

This should have been posted a long time ago... like 2 months ago. I can't believe they are already doing holiday commercials. Well, they are minimized holiday commercials like Cruise Lines - "Spend your holiday with us on a big boat with other people and their families which makes it really awkward! " Now, this will probably come back to bite me in the ass someday as I can sit here and think there might be one year we decide to go somewhere for Christmas, but until then... Bahumbug on Xmas Cruises & Vacations! And boo on October holiday commercials! Oh and ABC Family channel is already previewing their 25 days of xmas tv shows....starting NOVEMBER 8th? Last time I counted, that's MORE THAN 25 DAYS!  * Nate has stepped off his soapbox *

Priming & Painting - Completed

So Jay took on the challenge of priming and painting the new studio. And he did a great job. It all blends in with the rest of the room. All that remains is the new Aurelex to put on the inside of the walls to absorb the sound - its on order, and the new door, should arrive in the next 2-3 weeks. Love special orders. Not really. And the paint is the same color as the rest of the room so it may not be that noticeable.

CONGRATULATIONS

We send our congratulations and love to the new Mr. & Mrs. Drew Horman!

The Building of a Sound Room - Part 2

Wednesday started out early and the goal is to finish the construction of the front wall, which will have the door, and apply the sheet rock and mudd. Unfortunately, the door will not arrive for 4 weeks because it needs to be specially ordered. But, we have a room!

Chris mudds the inside of the room and smooths everything out.

One more time of mudding and sanding... its a tedious process. And a dusty one too.
After 2 days, Chris, Jay and Lindsey were able to do something that Jay only had in his head and on paper. We thank them again for their time and expertise.

The Building of a Sound Room - Part 1

Earlier this week, we were graced with Lindsey and Chris as visitors to help Jay and I build our own sound room inside the house. This would allow Jay to build what he needed versus what other manufacturers offered and what we originally thought would work when we built the entire addition to the house. Knowing what we know now..... the plan began on Tuesday morning. Chris, an excellent carpenter, worked hand in hand with Jay and Lindsey to start the room.
#1 : Form the floor - which floats. It sits on top of the original plywood flooring, then a layer of rubber, then u-boats and then the 2x4 platform. And technically, it doesn't touch any of the walls either. None of the room will. This will reduce the chances of normal home and external factors from causing vibrations in the room which could get caught on the microphone during recording sessions.

#2: Frame the Wall - The largest and tallest wall, about 10 feet high, is constructed and put in place.

#3- Next would be the back wall, or the one that is parallel to the front of the house. Well, my on-site photographer must have been on her union break cause we don't have a picture of that. :)
#4 - The other side wall is constructed and put together with the other 2 pieces and the floor. Insulation is already added on a portion of the walls.

#5 - And again, not sure what happened to the photographer at this point, but at least she got the finished product. Some how, Chris and Jay were able to lift the ceiling, already constructed and placed with the other 3 walls. Amazing. Again, the ceiling does not touch the actual house ceiling either.

#6 - Sheet rock time - starting to look like a real room.

End of Day #1 - Great job!!!!
Oh yeah, then Nate came home. LOL

3rd Times a Charm

So you all may remember that earlier this year, Jay purchased a Whisper Room for his voice over recording studio. You can find the post on the delivery and setup here. Anyway, that option allowed us to learn the Jay's voice is extremely too "bassy" to have only 7 foot ceilings and be confined in a 4x6 space. The sound was less than charming. So after we found the Whisper Room a new home in someone else's house, we decided it was time to build one the way it should have been done since the start. Now remember, we built the addition on to the house 3 years with 2 walk-in closets, 1 to be used originally for a sound room. Again, the idea was perfect but the design and end result, not so much. It makes for a great storage closet though! So Lindsey and Chris will be visiting us on Sunday to help us create a new space at the other end of the addition down at this end. The desk will be on the left half, while a new room will be on the right.

Oh, another update : the addition used to be our master bedroom. Not anymore, we've moved the bedroom back into the old bedroom, what we used to have setup as the den. I know, its sounds confusing and with such a small house, you'd think we'd be running out of places. Anyway, so the addition is now the living room. Its stuffed with too much stuff now only to get it out of the way to build the new room.

More to come as the building starts and continues!!!

Happy October!

I can't believe its already the first day of October.
But when you look and step outside, you know it.
Temperature is anywhere between 50 and 65. Leaves are all over the place. Acorns and dead tree branches and sticks are falling into the yard and driveway. And most importantly, our flowers are all dying, yet the mums are starting to bloom.
And I also believe Blue Jay Orchards is open and ready for apple picking and a look at the pumpkin patch. Apple cider and donuts anyone?
