Day 10

Still going strong on Day 10. I have gotten to the point where I am now the hypocrite anti-smoker. Its smells, it stinks, its foreign. ;) I don't like it near me at all. Jay's status hasn't changed. He tried again today but with him being home most of the day trying to set up the voice equipment and settings, he's getting frustrated. So quitting now isn't going to be so easy. But for me, I think I've kicked it. We'll see how Super Bowl Sunday goes as there will be cocktails and appetizers where normally a cigarette comes in handy. One day at a time. Mornings with coffee are much easier now. Lunch, I don't think twice about it. And even the drive home after work, I am no longer reaching for one either. I think the habit or memory of it has passed unless someone brings it up. So I am happy. Thanks again everyone for your thoughts!

Voiceover Booth has arrived.

After taking the 16 boxes of an 18-wheeler (yeah, imagine a semi coming up our one-way private road, blocking all traffic from coming or going, and the new neighbor getting his new septic tanks delivered all at the same time - the day started out so promising ). Anyway, after getting all the boxes in the house and removing each piece, one by one, we opened the instruction book. I am the reader, Jay is the do-er. Only tools needed was a phillips screwdriver. That's it. 2 1/2 hours later.... we have a new studio in the house.
It shares space with Jay's new desk at the end of the new bedroom addition. We just finished setting the desk up yesterday so it's kind of messy. He'll have it all setup by end of week.

The inside is padded with aurelex to keep the sounds as dead as possible. There will soon be a monitor inside for Jay to read the scripts directly from. Going green... no more paper.

Trash removal wasn't so nice. Breakin down boxes isn't a hobby of mine.
It doesn't look like alot in the pics, but you couldn't walk through the dining room or kitchen at all. But its all done... and the key thing is, Jay LOVES his room. Now that its 100% professionally setup, keep wishing him luck in meeting his goals and being a successful voiceover actor.

Remembering Grandma Phyllis

Its not like its on my calendar, but its one of those dates that sticks in your head. Ironically, mom mentioned it to me yesterday that Grandma Phyllis passed a year ago. I thought it was the 28th, but she corrected me it was today. I can't believe a year has passed already.  There are many times I think of her, or she comes up in conversation with different people. I think just remembering her in our daily rituals shows how much she meant to all of us. Just the other day, when I was at work talking about quitting smoking, I brought up how I remembered that Grandma always had an ashtray on the back of the toilet, with one or two butts. Yet, we never saw her sneak a drag ever, nor was it necessary to think of it once you left the bathroom. It is just one of those funny things that shows noone is perfect, yet in your heart, she was.
Grandma, we miss you and love you, and remember you often. Watch over us all.

25 Random Things

Nickie, Jackie, and every other brother tagged me on facebook.
Now its my turn to make the rules, and well, there are no rules. Yeah... I'm a rebel. HA!

1. I have been "married" to Jay for 5 years! On paper, its a civil union, which is 2+ years, 9/25/06.
2. I have a 12 year old named Ace, a 10 year old named KC and and a horse at 5 years named Makita.
3. I love Rascal Flatts and all their songs.
4. I've lived in CT for 8 years already.
5. I hate driving in the snow out here. Most people are idiots. My "Buffalo" skillz are much more superior.
6. I love going to Target.
7. Makita is always talking to us and says the craziest things. Don't tell her to shut up, because she talks back and its louder and she won't stop.
8. I have to be careful which movies we get through Netflix so I don't get the boo's from Jason.
9. My favorite restaraunt is Fiesta Mexicana in Brewster, NY.
10. I am having a great time catching up with everyone on facebook that I had lost touch with.
11. The weather is getting colder and I do not like it.
12. I go into a store to get clothes for myself and end up walking out with NOTHING. I think I am turning into Mr Cheap.
14. KC's blindness has opened a secondary love from me toward the little guy. I didn't think I could love him more... but I do.
15. I am addicted to Target Market Pantry Chocolate Chip Cookies.
16. Touch my porch its mine now.
17. Peacock... its neither a pea, nor a cock.... Discuss.
18. I actually enjoy the new Pepsi logo and Sierra Mist redesign. Wait for the new commercials for SuperBowl.
19. Road trips are great. Unless you have had less than 3 hours sleep and have to drive from Chicago to CT in one day.
20. I miss not being around the gang and family when I want to be. Yes, I didn't say "all the time" cause we know that is just a lie.
21. I remember lyrics to songs very easily even those I wish I had not - ME TOO Nickie. People are amazed at the ones I remember.
22. My mood instantly can change by hearing a great song and the opposite if someone p*sses me off.
23. I have only been to one REAL concert my entire life. Garth Brooks. THANKS MOM!
24. Jay and I would love to find an old farm property and open an animal rescue. Dogs, cats, farm animals....
25. I rarely can say I am bored.

Changes

Sad but true, I get bored with the blog look and colors, etc. So I am looking at new templates and colors and layouts all the time. So you may see some changes over the next week or so with me trying out new ones I find or create on the fly.

Day 5

Status Update : Still going strong. It actually hasn't been that hard this time around. I still have the habit of thinking I need one, after meals, with my morning coffee, etc. But after a minute the want goes by. I haven't replaced it with anything like suckers, or hard candy. I will fess up and say I have eaten alot more chocolate chip cookies this week. That reminds me, we are out of milk.
Anyway, Jay is working on his last pack and is determined to quit by Sunday. So wish him luck too. Lets hope the gloves don't come off now that both of us will be nicotine free. I do thank all of you for your wishes of luck and praise. Its not easy, but your support does help along the way. Keeping busy is the key for me. So the house will be spic and span clean by Monday :)

I'm a Quitter

As of yesterday, I am now a non-smoker. 2nd day in. Plan is to stay that way and I hope through will-power and constant nagging, it will take. Pepsi also offers a program for Staywell, an online journal and help-site that I am going take part of. Not only is it good for me, but completing the program, they give you a $100 gift card too! Jay will also be doing the program, but we've agreed it is a good idea to NOT quit together. Been there, done that, and well, it didn't work out so well. Lets just say I was the grumpy one. :) So I said I would go first. We both really need to. Not just for our health, but its a huge savings if you look at it. $5.50 a pack, $38.50 a week, $2002.00 a year... TIMES BOTH OF US!!!! That's $4000 we could put elsewhere!!!! Isn't that crazy!!!!! Hell, even if that money was played on lotto, we'd be better off. So here we go....

Inauguration Day

I was wondering why Inauguration Day happens on the day it does. So, I looked it up and thought I would share it. Back in the day, it took a long time to collect all the election ballots from each state, and to count who actually won the election. I mean, seriously, could you imagine waiting months to hear who the next president would be? Before the telephone, before the telegraph even, we depended on word of mouth by the good old horse and buggy distribution. It ain't no FedEx. Because of this long period, Inauguration Day was on March 4th. But due to the ratification of the 20th Amendment in 1933, which mandates the actual term length of the presidency, it has since been moved to January 20th at Noon of each year. Communication and transportation had obviously improved, which enabled the process of counting the ballots quicker, and getting the information back to the public more efficient. So, if you too were wondering, there ya go.

Red Sky in the Morning

Growing up, there was always that catchy phrase :
Red Sky in the Morning
Sailors take Warning
Red Sky at Night
Sailors Delight
Well, I just happened to be paying attention to the sunrise this morning and wow.
Bright red sky. So of course, comparing it to our weather forecast, it seems true.
We are supposed to get some really REALLY cold temps, possibly down to zero, and that doesn't count in the wind chill. Possibility of some snow & ice too.
Yeah, this was random, but it took up a blogspot, didn't it. :)

An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months. The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier ReefQueensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pooland golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

Ah hello???  Who wouldn't want to do this?

Happy 5th Birthday Makita

God was she cute at 10 weeks old. What happened to Mr Woodchuck anyway?

Happy Birthday Mak! Here's to many, many more, our pretty girl.
